The need for proprietary, sustainable perfume and flavor ingredients which are
REACH-compatible (
i.e. safe with regard to human health and environmentally friendly) is a key driver for our scientists involved in
Organic Synthesis.
Organic Synthesis, the construction of molecules from simpler raw materials, is used for the production of ingredient libraries prior to evaluation by our perfumers and flavorists. The development of novel, efficient and green methodologies in organic synthesis, with the extensive use of
catalysis, is also essential to ensure that we continue to develop proprietary industrial processes which can be then employed to produce selected ingredients at the most favourable performance/cost ratio.
MOLECULAR MODELLING
Computer assisted
molecular modelling allows us to compute and visualize the molecular shapes of these ingredients, and helps us to predict the organoleptic properties of a given molecular structure. We can also estimate physical parameters such as water solubility and volatility, which help us select attractive candidate molecules prior to their synthesis.
