PRESS RELEASE

Firmenich Wins 2017 DuPont Sustainability Award

Singapore, September 6, 2017DuPont has announced the winners of the 13th Edition of the DuPont Safety and Sustainability Awards. The awards recognize outstanding initiatives aimed at enhancing workplace safety, sustainability and operational effectiveness. Among the winners was Firmenich, recipient of the prestigious Global Sustainability Award for its Ingredients Sustainability Index. An industry first, the Index measures and reports the environmental footprint of hundreds of flavor and fragrance ingredients in full transparency.

"We are very proud to be the only company to have won all three DuPont awards, recognizing our constant pursuit of excellence in sustainability, operational excellence and safety,” said Gilbert Ghostine, CEO Firmenich. “It is the passion and dedication of our teams that took our Ingredients Sustainability Index from concept to “industry-first”, furthering our leadership in sustainability.”

The award ceremony took place in Singapore during the annual DuPont Executive Forum, during which all of the winners shared the context, content and success factors for their projects.

“Our ambition is to keep on striving for transparency by expanding the Firmenich Ingredients Sustainability Index, because we know the way products are sourced and manufactured is of utmost importance to our customers and their consumers,” said Neil McFarlane, Senior Vice President, Quality, Health, Safety, Security & Environment. “The learnings from the Index have enabled us to not only identify and share, but also reduce the impact of our ingredients. And this is just the beginning!”

“We are very pleased to recognize Firmenich for their achievements and commitment to sustainability,” said Davide Vassallo, Managing Director, DuPont Sustainable Solutions. “Like DuPont, they believe that improvements in sustainability performance allow companies to not only become better corporate citizens, but more competitive and effective.”

Jury President Mieke Jacobs, Executive Coach with 20 years of Operations Management experience at DuPont, said that jury members were particularly impressed by both the quality and quantity of the projects submitted for consideration this year. “This growth is heartening, as I strongly believe that the recognition of positive contributions to workplace safety and corporate sustainability is crucial in galvanizing the public and private sectors to promote and pursue improvement projects.”

The Firmenich Ingredients Sustainability Index was designed to enable the Group to make key sustainability decisions on raw materials sourcing, manufacturing process improvements and product development. Today Firmenich measures and reports the environmental and health profile of more than 400 ingredients throughout their lifecycle, with new ingredients being added every year. With its Ingredients Sustainability Index, Firmenich aims to demonstrate to its customers how it measures its ingredients’ life-cycle and how it can improve its processes to continually reduce its impact.
