In October 2019, Firmenich was recognized for its exemplary leadership in Diversity & Inclusion with the Ethical Corporation Responsible Business Award 2019. Ethical Corporation’s judges praised Firmenich’s “well-rounded and scalable approach to diversity, firmly embedded in the company’s culture”, and described its impact as “impressive”. The Group’s CEO, Gilbert Ghostine was also “Highly Commended” in the Business Leader Award for his leadership in inclusive capitalism and innovation to make business work for people and the planet.
Firmenich has been ranked by CDP as a world leader in environmental management, one of only two companies this year to achieve CDP triple “A” status for climate change, water security and forests. This world-class distinction is testament to Firmenich’s commitment to conducting its business responsibly, with ambitious sustainability goals embedded in its strategy.
Firmenich Thirsk won the prestigious Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Gold Award in recognition of our H&S achievements. Our occupational H&S performance was assessed by an independent expert panel against judging criteria aligned with RoSPA’s goal to promote safety and the prevention of accidents.
Beyond its CDP triple ‘A’ score, Firmenich further reinforced its impact with its top ranking on the CDP Supplier Engagement Leaderboard. This global supply chain recognition is testament to Firmenich’s excellence in working with its suppliers to reduce carbon emissions and environmental risks across its value chain.
We are the seventh company in the world, and the first in our industry, to receive Global EDGE Certification for gender equality in the workplace, following a rigorous third-party audit. By awarding us this global endorsement, EDGE, the leading business certification standard for gender equality, has recognized our success in driving a diverse and inclusive workforce worldwide, with equal opportunities for all.
Also, Firmenich Asia won the Innovative Project Award for the 5th Enabling Employers Awards (EEA), which recognizes companies that have put in place new ideas or innovative projects that improve employment, employability or productivity of persons with disability.
In 2018, for the third consecutive year, Firmenich received a Gold rating from EcoVadis, positioning us a leader in our industry and in the top 1% of 45,000 global suppliers assessed. Being recognized by Ecovadis not only helps create common ground with our customers but also has the potential to create a positive chain effect all the way from brands down to the farmers at the source of our raw materials.
Firmenich was awarded “Best Sustainable Family Company Switzerland 2018 Award”, by CFI.co, a leading business journal, at the occasion of the United Nations World Investment Summit in Geneva. We were highly acknowledged by CFI.co for our holistic leadership in sustainability and our focus on advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
In the U.S, Firmenich New Ulm received a Meritorious Achievement Award for exemplary workplace safety efforts, from the annual Governor’s Safety Awards program. This program honors Minnesota employers with exceptional safety performance.
Also, we were honored in Singapore with an International Business Award for our pioneering program to integrate visually impaired professionals across sensory panels.
In 2017, DuPont announced the winners of the 13th Edition of the DuPont Safety and Sustainability Awards. The awards recognize outstanding initiatives aimed at enhancing workplace safety, sustainability and operational effectiveness. Among the winners was Firmenich, recipient of the prestigious Global Sustainability Award for its Ingredients Sustainability Index. The Index measures and reports the environmental footprint of hundreds of flavor and fragrance ingredients in full transparency.
Firmenich was also recognized by the Better Society Network with its 2017 Ethical Business Award. The Better Society Network recognizes top achievers that advance social, environmental and ethical best-practices across business.
During the International Women’s Day, Dr. Bérangère Magarinos-Ruchat, Vice President Sustainability Partnerships, Firmenich, was recognized by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development’s (WBCSD) Leading Women Awards. WBCSD launched this inaugural award to distinguish the ten most outstanding women leaders advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals within WBCSD member companies.

In 2015, in London, UK, Dr. Bérangère Magarinos-Ruchat, Vice President Sustainability Partnerships at Firmenich, received the Ethical Corporation’s “Head of Sustainability of the Year” award at its annual Responsible Business Awards ceremony.
In Switzerland, Firmenich was named “Best Supply Chain Responder” by CDP, taking the number one position in its home country, out of a total of 20 Swiss companies.
Also in Indonesia, our manufacturing site was recognized as the Best in Class in environmental management and reporting initiatives by the local government.
In 2014, in Switzerland, Firmenich was named Best Improver for increasing our CDP climate disclosure score by 23 points from 2013 to 2014.
In 2013, during the World Corporate Social Responsibility Congress in Mumbai, India, Firmenich was selected from more than 2,500 applicants worldwide and received the Sustainability Leadership Award with the Naandi Foundation in the category of “Best Project Collaboration” for our Shared Senses project in India.
Firmenich also won the British-Swiss Chamber of Commerce Corporate Social Responsibility Award for its contribution to business in the United Kingdom and Switzerland. The judges highlighted our innovative work on products of natural origin and the company’s business model, which consistently focuses on social issues and increasingly involves alternative energy.
In 2012, Firmenich was the proud recipient of the international Robert W. Campbell Award, the highest and most prestigious safety award any organization can achieve globally. The Award recognized organizations that achieve excellence through the integration of health, safety and environmental (HS&E) management in business operations. Applications were reviewed by a panel of renowned experts and leaders in the business, education, safety, health and environmental fields.
Firmenich was voted Best Private Company at Ethical Corporation’s 2011 Responsible Business Awards ceremony. Our entry was selected from among 200 companies from 30 countries, and the judging panel was impressed by “the breadth and depth of Firmenich’s approach and by its transparency.”
