Fresh, herbal, minty, bright and earthy.
Typically aromatic, it offers a subtle fruity undertone. Fresher on top but less herbal and animalic than the absolute.
Stems and flowers are directly crushed ("ensillée") during the harvest and distilled in the tank (called locally "distillation en caisson" ) giving a typical and powerful profile to the essential oil versus traditional distillation.

Absolute and essence are both used in the composition of chypre, fougere and oriental fragrances.

Obtained by distillation of the biomass with water, or steam.
The essential oil is physically separated from the aqueous phase by decantation.
