Sourcing

Blue chamomile is derived from the German chamomile plant, which is an upright growing annual. It contains a high content of azulene, the active organic compound of chamomile, which bears a blue color.

Egypt

dsm-firmenich sources its Blue Chamomile from the province of Fayoum and Beni Suef in Egypt.
Around four times between January and April, smallholder farmers harvest the flowers by gently combing the plant. The flowers are either left to sun-dry in the field for several days or delivered directly to processors for drying. The dried flowers are graded according to residual stem lengths, followed by steam distillation, which takes between 5 to 10 hours.
