Sourcing

Viola odorata is a species of the genus Viola, native to Europe and Asia. The leaves and flowers of the common blue violet are edible and medicinal. They are often candied or used in salad, pastries, or syrup. Violet leaf absolute is widely used in modern perfumery. Of the total 450 species that are listed in the world, twenty of them grow in temperate climates, such as the Viola odorata which we use in perfumery.

Egypt

Around 90% of Violet leaf extract come from Egypt. Leaves are collected and stored for 24 hours, to macerate and develop their olfactive characteristics before being extracted. Most of the productions are located between Cairo and Alexandria (Nile Delta Area), with a mix of small farms from 2 to 6 hectares and large plantations, intercropping violet plants with date palms and orange trees to provide shade to the violets. The harvest starts in May with four cuts, one every 70 days on average.
