Sourcing

Rosemary is native to dry, rocky areas of the Mediterranean, especially along the coast. The name Rosmarinus derives from the Latin words ros and marinus which together translate to “dew of the sea.” Rosemary has been used since ancient times, dating back to the early Greek and Roman era. The leaves have a pungent, slightly bitter taste and, dried or fresh, and are generally used to season foods apart from their application in the F&F industry.

Spain

dsm-firmenich sources its Rosemary from Spain, where the aromatic plant grows wild in many parts of the country.
dsm-firmenich purchases Rosemary from companies that contract with local authorities to collect the plant by hand from the wild in a responsible manner throughout the year, so as to minimize the environmental impact of the harvest.
