PROTECTING HUMAN RIGHTS
Our Approach To Human Rights
At Firmenich, we strive to protect people and reduce inequality. Human rights are one of our primary concerns, whether it is ensuring health and safety during a pandemic or advocating for social justice.
As one of 36 LEAD companies in the UN Global Compact, we are taking steps to advance the ten UN principles, starting with respect for human rights.
Our commitments and expectations of our colleagues and suppliers are outlined in our Human Rights Policy. It complements our Code of Ethics and our Responsible Sourcing Policy. These policies set out what we expect from all our business partners.

In our supply chain, we are advancing human rights through several tools such as EcoVadis, a platform collecting supplier data, and the Union for Ethical BioTrade principles, which we promote with our suppliers of natural ingredients through field audits. We also work with Sedex, one of the world’s leading ethical trade service providers, acting to improve working conditions in global supply chains. Building on our engagement with the UN Global Compact, we were the first company in our industry to sign the UN Global Compact Action Platform for Decent Work in Global Supply Chains in 2019.

“Human rights are an essential element of our Responsible Procurement policy at Firmenich. Specifically, we engage with our suppliers to ensure they understand the Firmenich Human Rights Policy and develop it throughout their own supply chain all the way to the concerned smallholders.”
